The On Avalon team has been busy this past month! July kicked-off with the LA-Más designers meeting with six businesses that will receive exterior design support for their storefronts. The design will be completed by the end of month with construction to start in September! We also provided over 10 businesses with technical assistance, hosted a legal workshop for commercial tenants, and organized a community event on Avalon Boulevard.
Sidewalk Sale and Wayfinding Signage Feedback Event
On Avalon had a very successful sidewalk sale for local antique shop, Home + Treasures, on a hot Sunday in late July — stay tune for more events in months to come! Also, LA-Más used this opportunity to gather feedback from residents on what types of wayfinding signage they would like to see on Avalon Boulevard. LA-Más will be designing and installing wayfinding signage on Avalon as part of a Port of Los Angeles grant. Keep your eye out for another community design workshop later this year!
Commercial Tenants Workshop
In partnership with the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles, On Avalon hosted a workshop for small businesses in Wilmington to learn more about their rights as commercial tenants. With over a dozen participants, the event was an educational opportunity that was filled with excellent questions and lively discussion. The goal of this workshop was to improve tenant-property owner relationships and provide business owners with best practices for commercial leases.
