Small Business Support Program

The On Avalon team has been busy canvassing and meeting with the 60+ small businesses along the corridor to offer design and technical assistance. We are currently working with nearly a dozen business owners. This past week, these businesses had their first technical assistance meetings with the Harbor Business Source Center and El Camino’s Small Business Development Center, to discuss business plans, licensing and permits, and marketing strategies. We are looking forward to supporting the visionary ideas these business owners have to fruition!

Small Business Meet & Greet

We also had our first Small Business Support Program event, a Meet & Greet for businesses to get to know each other and the many local organizations and resources they can connect with. After door-to-door canvassing along the corridor, we heard from many of the business owners that they wanted the opportunity to get to know their neighbors; this event gave them that opportunity. The Meet & Greet was hosted by Maya Restaurant on Avalon Boulevard and sponsored by the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce. Over delicious food, business owners were able to talk to each other, to local non-profits, and to business resource providers that have expertise in areas such as legal advice, loan counseling, and business development.

Wayfinding Signage is Coming to Avalon Boulevard!

LA-Más was recently awarded a grant from the Port of Los Angeles to design and install multi-directional wayfinding signage along Avalon Boulevard (south of Anaheim Street) to Banning’s Landing and the Wilmington Waterfront Park. We are looking forward to adding to this list of improvements for Avalon Boulevard. Look out for opportunities to comment on what you would like to see on this signage!
